Eswatini
Eswatini is the last absolute monarchy in sub-Saharan Africa. The contrast between the lavish lifestyle of the king (and his 14 wives) and the poverty that grips more than half of the population is alarming. Around 25% of the workforce is unemployed, while the economic situation continues to decline. The constitution banned political parties, and the lack of democracy and human rights suppress change and make positive progress very difficult. Pray that the King might see his position not as a privilege but as a responsibility to serve his people and his land. Pray that Christians might be at the heart of grassroots movements that care for the neediest in Eswatini.
